Grecian Legend and Lore - Pandora The first mortal woman, Pandora was created to be ‘curious’ by the Gods. She was given a jar (not a box, as is commonly thought) and told never to open it. Her curiosity got the best of her…she opened the jar and released hatred, evils, plagues, and diseases upon mankind.  The only thing remaining in the jar when she quickly replaced the lid, was Hope.
